The scene where Mary the Mother of Jesus mourns her Son's death is a much-exploited theme in Roman Catholic art, and is known by the name of Pietà (pity). This touching representation, full of human suffering, was found in a small chapel near Locronan, a small hilltop town where weavers used to make linen and sails. It has now become a centre for artists and artisans -- very commercial, but all in very good taste.
