24/50.-Saigon, Hotels in District 1

We are back to District 1. In the picture you can see a couple of buildings in the backpackers section of Saigon, Pham Ngu Lao. Most of the backpacking guides tell you this is the place to look for a place to stay. In my opinion there are much better options in the streets out of this area.

By the way, if you are going to visit Vietnam on your own, you have to know there is the option of buying an 'Open Bus' ticket. With this ticket you can travel all the way to Hanoi (or from Saigon to Ho Chi Minh City) for a bargain price. You can stop at any destination (Hue, Hoi An, etc) on the way North (or South), stay as long as you want and keep traveling. Buses pick you up at your hotel and leave you at the doors of a hotel in your destination. Some of the hotels that open bus will take you to are excellent, others are not so good. But it is always a good idea to take a look at the 'Open Bus' proposed hotel before trying somewhere else.

In most of the cheap hotels in Saigon you can buy one of these open bus tickets. In your hotel you will also find plenty of information about things to do in Saigon. Your hotel will also arrange your visa extension and offer tours.
