3/48.- Damascus, statue of Saladin

Next to the entrance to the Citadel of Damascus is a statue in honor of Saladin, the Kurdish Muslim leader who ruled the region in the 12th century, and who fought the European crusaders.

In order to visit Damascus the most convenient way is on foot. If you stay far from the city center you can take a taxi to the citadel, but most hotels are close enough to walk.
