Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple is a breathtaking temple complex in the outskirts of Delhi. The hindu temple was finished in 2005 to celebrate 10,000 years of Indian culture, by the BAPS (an organization of the Swaminarayan faith). More than 10,000 artisans took part in its construction, and, believe me, their effort was well worth it!
The complex consists of several buildings, with hand-carved sculptures on their walls, surrounded by nice gardens. The entrance is free, but you have to leave all your electronic gadgets (cameras, phones, MP3 players, etc), in a cloakroom outside. The visit to the temple will take you several hours. Most visitors feel overwhelmed by the beauty and size of the project. Unfortunately it is only possible to take pictures of it from the road.
