I recommend visiting the Muslim Quarter on your own. The best time to visit is in the afternoon. Do not rush. Take your time to enjoy its small streets and numerous shops, where you can buy traditional handicrafts.
It is good to come here in the afternoon, not only to see the vivid and hectic streets at their busiest , but also to have dinner in one of the Muslim Restaurants. There are plenty of them from cheap street stalls to elegant restaurants. Prices are low, but the food is excellent. If you stay in this area long enough, you may forget you are in China. Streets, shops, restaurants, and even the people, will make you think you are somewhere in Turkey.
