According to an ancient legend the pagoda was built where a wild goose fell after a monk asked for help from Bodhisattva because they had run out of meat.
North of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda is the North Square, with its water fountains, gardens and tourist paths. Its musical fountains have become one of Xian's top tourist attractions.
The best time to visit the place is in the afternoon. If you stay till dusk, you will enjoy the fountains at their best.
