South of Dupont Circle is the George Washington University, a private institution founded in 1821. In the pciture you can see a bust dedicated to the first US president on the university campus.
On the west end of Georgetown is the Georgetown University, a private Jesuit University founded in 1789. One of its most famous students was former US president Bill Clinton. The University is famous for its political activism.
