15/44.- Art Institute of Chicago, "American Gothic"

As I mentioned, the museum's collection of American paintings is one of its main strengths. This work, "American Gothic," a 1930 work by Grant Wood, is world-famous (and the subject of numerous parodies). Other famous works in the American collection include Edward Hopper's "Nighthawks," and works by Mary Cassatt, Winslow Homer, and Frederic Remington.
