North of the Kulkulcan Pyramid is a series of temples and the Great Ball Court.
The first temple, and the biggest, in this group is the Temple of the Jaguars, named after the motifs on its upper structure. The building hosts a series of chambers, now closed to visitors to preserve the colored paintings that cover its walls.
An annex building has a jaguar statue which experts say was a ceremonial throne, where the lord of Chichen Itza presided public and religious ceremonies.
