We will start this virtual visit at the Great North Platform, with a picture of the Kukulcan Pyramid, which is also the first building you see after entering the archeological site.
The Pyramid, also known as "El Castillo" (the Castle), is the most famous landmark in Chichen Itza. The construction has a square base, with stairways on its four sides that lead to a temple on the top. The temple is dedicated to the plumed serpent, Kukulcan or Quetzalcoatl.
It used to be possible to climb to the top of the pyramid, but access is closed since 2006.
