15/37.- Antigua Guatemala, Agua Volcano

Here you can see the imposing Volcano Agua as seen from the center of Antigua. Spaniards called the volcano Agua (Water) after seeing a mudslide, originated by a volcano eruption, destroy the first capital of Guatemala back in 1541. The volcano is currently not active, but scientists say some day it may be.

There are excursions to climb the 12,335 feet (3,760 m) high volcano. The main reason to do it are the excellent views you have from up there. Other volcanoes in the area are active, a much better choice if you want to see the lava.
