2/37.- Antigua Guatemala, Parque Central
The first capital of Guatemala was founded in 1525, and was moved to a safer location in 1527. The second capital was destroyed by a devastating mudflow. In 1543 Antigua was founded by the Spanish conquistadores, and it became the third capital of Guatemala. In 1773 most of the constructions in Antigua Guatemala were destroyed by an earthquake. Two years later the capital was moved to Guatemala City. During these two centuries many churches and colonial buildings were constructed in Antigua.
In the picture you can see the Parque Central, as it name implies, the Central Square in Antigua.
