Take the bus from Oranjestad to San Nicolas. It should only take about 30 minutes, unless you get the slow bus which meanders all over before finally arriving. Actually, the slow bus is a great way to see more of the island and the local people. By the time you get to San Nicolas, you'll be ready for the delicious food that Charlie's Bar is famous for. There's not much else to see in San Nicolas. Its heyday was during the days when the Lago oil refinery, later taken over by Exxon, was functioning and employing some 8,000 people. The refinery closed in 1985, and since then the tourist industry has become the largest employer.
