45/50.- Luxor, Hatshepsut temple, column

Menu

Throughout the temple were found statues and sphinxes of the queen. Many of them have been reconstructed from the small smashed fragments found by the archeologists in the area. Some are now in the Cairo museum, and others in the Metropolitan Museum of art in New York.

This temple will always be remembered for a disaster that took place in 1997, when more than 60 tourists were killed in a terrorist attack. Since then the local governement has increased the protection in the area. Tourist's bags are checked in every temple, and some parts of the region are closed to foreigners.
