10/23.- Warsaw, Mostowa Street

Not all the streets of the New Town are so busy. On the contrary - most of them are quiet and sleepy. This street led to the first bridge in Warsaw, constructed nearly 500 years ago. Unfortunately it was swept by ice which was flowing down the river, after a severe winter of 1611.

After the destruction of the bridge (it was never rebuilt) the street became a quiet and cozy place. The church which you see at the end of the street, is the Holy Spirit Church. It was built in the second half of the seventeenth century and is one the nicer baroque churches in Warsaw (to tell the truth, I prefer the Saint Ann’s Church with it’s magnificent organs and splendid altar).
