5/22.- Wallonia: Namur (1)
Namur, at the confluence of the Sambre (left) and Meuse rivers
(right),
used to be a military stronghold and is still dominated by a
fortified
citadel. Today, it has become the seat of the Walloon Parliament.
This is
where the Catholic University College and the Archeological
Museum are
situated. As the town is not dependent on heavy local industry,
it has been
able to maintain a quiet character in which small and medium-sized
enterprises have flourished.
