Louis XIV himself wrote a book to guide visitors
through "his" gardens. The exact purpose of this
guidebook is still not know. We only know that there are
six versions of this book, written between 1689 and 1705.
Nowadays visitors can follow the king guidance. In this
Photographic Tour we have, more or less, followed this "Royal"
tour.
The itinerary varies from one version of the book
to another. If you want to follow the king's tour, you
should start at the 'Parterre d'Eau' --in front of the
Chateau main facade--, visit the Orangery, walk along the
garden's main axis --from the Latona Basin to the Apollo
Basin-- take a boat to the Menagerie and Trianon, and
walk back to the castle through the Dome Grove, the Flora
and Ceres Basins and visit the Neptune Basin. This later
