18/30.- Chateau of Versailles, gardens, Bassin de Latone

The main theme of the garden is the myth of Apollo. From here you can see the main axis of the garden. Louis XIV, the King Sun, comissioned the construction of this garden. Geometry and symetry play an important role.

At the right you can see the fountain dedicated to the mother of Apollo, Latona. Stone and bronze were used to carve the fountain's sculptures, but water plays also a key role. Only on Sundays visitors can see the fountains at its most. [Next »]
