16/30.- Chateau
of Versailles, Crusades Rooms, picture
The last "king" of France to live in the Chateau of
Versailles was Napoleon I. He was born in 1769 in
Corsica. He went to a military academy, and when he was
only 24, he became official. When he was 30, after a
coup, he was proclaimed consul. Five years later, he was
crowned Emperor by the Pope. His victorious campaigns
throughout Europe and his alliances made of his the
biggest Empire in Europe. In 1810 he moved to
Versailles. In 1812, after his first serious defeat in
Russia, he was forced to exile to the isle of Elba. He
could recover part of his power, but in Waterloo he lost
all his credit; and was imprisoned for live in the Island
of Saint Helena.
