12/30.- Chateau
of Versailles, lamp of the Hall of Mirrors
In this photo you can see one of the lamps in
detail. The hall is 73 meters long. Large windows on one
side of the room, and large mirrors on the other side
have a multiplying effect. The room seems to be much
wider than it actually is. The walls are decorated with
marble, gilded bronze capitals and sculptures.
The Hall of Mirrors not only played a key role
during the ancient regime, it also played an important
role at the end of the World War I. Germans signed here
the Treaty of Versailles, which put an end to this war.
