Louis XV's reign would last 59 years, from 1715 to
1774. When he was 15 he married the daughter of the king
of Poland, Maria Leszczinska. His reign was very
prosperous, thanks to the demographic growth, the
technical progress and the lasting peace.
The court's elegance and refinement came to its
peak when the king met Madame de Pompadour.
Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson was the daughter of a rich
Parisian family. She was well known for her beauty,
intelligence and elegance. She was the king's lover for
five years, but their friendship lasted till the king's
death.
Madame de Pompadour took part in the decoration of
the castles --Grand and Petite Trianon--, where she
organized sophisticated parties.
