The unlimited powers of the King Sun did not last for ever. Soon after his secret marriage with Madame de Maintenon (1683), the castle parties and the king love affairs came to an end. The queen forced him to follow the strict Christian norms.

His last years in power were not as brilliant as they used to be. Especially after a series of deaths in the royal family, which left his five year old great grandson as the only heir to the throne.
