10/35.- Venice, Ponte di Rialto, Canal Grande view

This is the principal avenue of the city. This used to be the harbor of Venice. In the 15th century the rich merchants began building their palaces here and the 'Gran Canale' lost its function as a harbor.

To go from the beginning of the canal to the end you can take one of the Vaporetti you see in the photo. Numbers 1 and 82 will take you to the 'Ponte degli Scalzi', in front of the Santa Lucia Train Station (where we began the tour).
