38/50.- The Dark Church, Goreme open air museum

For the Dark Church one needs to pay a separate entrance fee. The Dark Church (Karanlik kilise) has been restored in 1986. It belongs to the 13th century and the frescos are similar to those of the Apple church. This is a four-column type of church with three apses.From many elements present in the depiction of the biblical subjects the frescoes indicate a Byzantine Renaissance. Among the most interesting frescoes you can see Angels watching Christ, Raising of Christ, the Last Supper, the Evangelists, Nativity and Baptism, the Three Kings, Christ Pantocrator, Annunciation, Journey to Bethlehem, Raising of Lazarus, Journey to Jerusalem.
