8/34.- Seville, "Archivo de las Indias"
In 1503 the 'Casa de Contratacion de las Indias'
--The monopolist America Trade Company-- was
established in Seville, giving a big impulse to the
city's economy. The expansion times lasted till
1717, when the 'Casa de Contratacion de las Indias'
was moved to Cadis.
Now, this Building is called 'Archivo de las
Indias' (= Archive of the Indies), and it holds a
huge collection of material related to the America
conquest -- including some letters Columbus sent to
Isabel and Fernando, the Catholic Monarchs who
financed his expedition.
