Every seven years a Saint Year (Año Xacobeo) is declared. The last Xacobeo year was 1999. In these Saint Years many special activities take place throughout the year.

The best date to visit Santiago is on the 24th of July (the "Dia de la Patria Galega", the Galizia National day), when many people visit the city.
