22/42.- Rome, The Vatican, San Pietro’s dome

This dome is a work of Michael Angelo, who designed it following the original designs of Bramante. The influences of the dome that Brunelleschi constructed in Florence are more than evident.

You can climb to the top of the dome, from where there is a wonderful view of the city. To get to the top you have to go to the Vatican Grottoes --where several saints and popes remain in peace-- and look for the the stairs' entrance.
