4/50.- Surdesti, interior of the Greek-Catholic church

The interior of all wooden churches in Maramures as you can see also from this picture is limited in capacity most of the faithful attend the service outside the church. The church in Surdesti makes no exception. The interior walls are decorated with interesting frescoes dating from the 18th century and early 19th century. Scenes from the Old and New Testament, saints, martyrs, a pre-Copernican Universe with the planets and the Sun orbiting the Earth make of Surdesti one of the most interesting wooden church in Marmures.
