9/43.- Prague,
Prasná Brána
Prasná Brána (Powder Tower) sits on the place where
the old city gate used to be in the 13th century. In 1475 king Vladislav
I ordered the construction of a representative new gate, but when
he moved to the Castle, its construction was not continued. The name
of the tower comes from the 17th and 18th century, when the unfinished
tower was used as a store for gunpowder. Its current form is from
1875-1886 in a Purist reconstruction by J. Mocker. In case you want
to know, the tower is 65 meters high.
Next to this tower theres a wonderful Art Nouveau building:
the Municipal House.
