3/43.- Prague, astronomical clock detail

The original 'Orloj' (clock) dates from 1410. The one you’re seeing now is a copy --if you want to see the real one you’ll have to go to the Museum of the City. In 1490 master Hanus of Ruze perfected the mechanism and in 1552-1560 Klokotská Hora repaired it. From 8 am to 8 p.m. the 12 apostles move past the two little windows of the clock (top). Below there’s an astronomical clock with a representation of the medieval perception of the Universe, it measures the hour, the moon and the sun movements. Below it, you can see the 12th zodiac symbols surrounded by typical rural people figures.
