Paris, Pantheon
The Pantheon was originally designed to be a church in times
of Louis XV. The king wanted to dedicate a monument to Saint Geneviève,
after he recovered from a serious illness. But the monument was not
completed till 1789, when French Revolutionaries used it to bury famous
French people. Among others, Voltaire, Marie Curie, Victor Hugo, and
Émile Zola rest in peace in the crypt beneath the church. The
Pantheon is also famous because Foucault conducted his famous experiment
with a pendulum in this building.
