8/25.- Montserrat, candles

If you come to Montserrat you can lit a candle to honor our Lady. I think you have to be Catholic to do this. If you do not believe, you can lit one anyway. It can do you no harm.

Montserrat has inspired many literature works. Already in the middle age many writers described this unusual mountain. Desclot, Cervantes and Lope de Vega located parts of their books in this mountain range. In the 19th century Thicknesse imagined the mountain as a giant temple. G Humbolt described the mountain as a symbol of spiritual peace. Years later, Goethe and Schiller inspired by these descriptions, situated in Montserrat the Holy Grail. These legends inspired Richard Wagner's “Parsifal”.
