The French
domination lasted not long, the Spanish king Charles V
defeated them in the Pavia battle. The Spanish domination
lasted almost two centuries, during this period two
decisive celebrities of the city history lived here: San
Carlo Borromeo and Federicco Borromeo. The city was
invaded by Napoleons troops and named the capital
of the Cisalpine Republic.
