Lyon is a city full of life, when the sun sets another Lyon wakes up. This is especially true since 1989, when the the city's new lighting program took shape. Over 150 landmarks are illuminated each night, the most modern techniques are used for this purpose. The use of light is not limited to this program, since 1852 the Festival of Lights is celebrated in Lyon each December 8th. On this very special date, local citizens put lanterns on their balconies and go out the street to admire the effects of light in the different city quarters.
Lyon has a typical continental weather. The best season to visit this city is from May to September -- when average temperatures are between 15/20 C (60/68 F). From December to February, Lyon is really cold --average temperatures between 2/6C (35/43 F)--. In fall rain is usual, and in winter snow is not rare.
