13/33.- Lisbon, "Torre de Belem"

Nowadays Portugal is a stable democracy --especially after the Portuguese European Economic Union’s entry in 1986. The country is quickly catching up with the more modern European economies.

Since the beginning of 2002, Portugal takes part in the European Monetary Union --almost all the countries in the European Union replaced their own currencies for a European unit: the Euro.

We are now in front of the Belem tower, built in 1515-1521 to protect the seaward entrance of the city.
