The Piazza del Popolo is the centre of the town, surrounded by the city’s main landmarks : the 12th-century Duomo with an impressive flight of stairs leading to its main entrance ; the gothic Priors’ Palace with its 14th-century tower, The Captain’s Palace, and the People’s Palace, one of Italy’s most ancient city halls, which today hosts an archaeological and art museum. And there is still room left for little cafés, restaurants, boutiques and souvenir shops. And on certain days, as in this picture, there is an antiques-and-flea market.
