35/50.- Umbria, Perugia, Underground

The tourist taking the stairways up into Perugia from the underground car park first disembarks in an eerie underground universe. Perugia is one of the oldest cities in the region, whose history traces back to the 7th and 6th century B.C. Many traces of the city’s history and earlier splendour are still visible above and below the ground, as successive civilizations and occupations have added their constructions on top of the ruins of earlier streets and buildings.
