27/50.- Latium, Amelia

Amelia, built on a mountain ridge between the Tiber and Nera valleys, and circled by polygonal ramparts, is one of the oldest towns in Umbria. Its small streets are dark, tortuous and narrow, and one understands better why so many Italians drive these tiny cars and Vespa vans.
