23/50.- Umbria, Orvieto, San Severo Abbey

The 12th-C. San Severo Abbey with its remarkable decagonal tower lies at a few miles from Orvieto and is visible from its ramparts. Today, the former Benedictine institution hosts a luxury hotel, but many traces of its religious past can still be seen and visited, and the Umbrian frescoes in its chapel and refectory have been maintained and protected.
