8/50.- Umbria, Orvieto, Cathedral

This sculpture represents King David, the author of many of the Psalms, with his royal crown and the lyre or harp with which he accompanied himself. The climbing vine in which he is framed represents the genealogical tree of David, which eventually leads up to the birth of Jesus Christ. I could have shown you many more interesting scenes (like Noah’s Ark or the Nativity), but the number of pictures one can show on a Virtourist site is limited, and there are still plenty of other things in Orvieto and elsewhere that I want to show you !
