Istanbul, Tram on Pera Road (Istiklal Caddessi)
Very close we find the monastery of the Mevlevi order. The
Galata tekke was founded in 1491 but the original building burned
down in the 18th c, the present tekke being restored some 40
years ago.
At a short distance Istiklal Caddesi, the famous Grande Rue
de Pera. Pera is the other name of this neighborhood known to
the Muslims as Beyoglu. The main promenade boulevard of this
cosmopolitan district is lined with fashion shops, banks, restaurants,
gardens, sumptuous mansions housing embassies or consulates;
an enduring landmark, Pera Palas Oteli, made famous by Orient
Express, Agatha Christie and Ataturk who had a suite here.
In the photo the tram to Taksim Square along Istiklal Caddesi.
We return by taxi to Eminonu port to catch a ferry boat to the
Princes Islands. Let's go.
