2/24.- Sacred Way, Delphi, Greece

The Temple of Apollo is approached via the Sacred Way, seen here. Delphi was a sacred site long before the classical period of ancient Greece, with signs of extensive use dating back to the Mycenaean period (1600-1100 BCE). It was, however, during the glory years of ancient Greece that it really came into its own and most of the ruins date to that period (approximately 6th - 4th centuries BCE). Of course, what made Delphi most famous was its Oracle: pilgrims would come from all over the Greek world and beyond to pay their respects at the Temple of Apollo and seek guidance from the Oracle.
