41/45.- Athens, Byzantine Museum, Madonna and Child Mosaic

Of course, Athens's history didn't end with the fall of the Rome. The excellent Byzantine Museum continues Athens's story, with artifacts from the 4th to 15th centuries. Religious art (icons) are a very big part of the Byzantine tradition.

This work, called "the Episkepsis" dates to the 14th century and is one of the museum's highlights.
