15/45.- Athens, Erechtheum, South side

The other major temple on top of the Acropolis is the Erectheum. Like the Parthenon, it was built in the 5th century BCE and consists mostly of white marble. Perhaps the most famous feature is the "porch of the maidens," with female figures (called caryatids) serving as supporting columns. These caryatids are actually replicas, with the real ones on display in the atmosphere-controlled Acropolis Museum.
