13/45.- Athens, Parthenon, West Side

Of course, the most famous structure on the Acropolis is the Parthenon, one of the most famous buildings in Western civilization. In person it looks much as it does in pictures, though up close it is surprisingly huge. Built as a temple to Athena, the patron deity of Athens, it was converted to a church in the 6th century, and a mosque in the 15th century.
