2/45.- Athens, Ancient Agora
Here we see the entrance to the Ancient Agora, lined by giant statues. Although you can buy
separate entrance tickets to the Agora and many of the other ancient sites, it's easier to buy the handy combined ticket, which gives you access to six of the key attractions, the Agora, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Theater of Dionysus, Kerameikos Cemetery, the Roman Agora,
and the Acropolis.
The Ancient Agora was the marketplace of classical Athens and, incidentally, where Socrates was forced to commit suicide. It's now a very pleasant spot, quiet and park-like. Quite a change from the noise and congestion of the city outside! The ruins are pretty well-ruined, and even somewhat overgrown, although there are signs carefully explaining whateverything once was. The highlight of the Agora is the Temple of Hephaestus.
