Geneva, Town Hall
Very close from "Place du Bourg du Four" sits the
City Hall, the "Hôtel de Ville". Already in
the 15th century the town was ruled from within this walls.
Currently it not only holds the government of the Republic,
but also the government of the Canton of Geneva.
The building is worldwide famous for three events that took
place here. The first of them was the first Geneva Convention
in 1864. It does not tell you much? Well, what if I tell you
that the International Red Cross was founded soon after this
convention? The second famous event was in 1872, when a mediation
was carried on between England and the United States after the
War of Secession. The last event is even more important; in
November 15 1920 the first Assembly of the League of Nations
was held here.
