5/42.- Geneva, Jet d'eau from Jardin Anglais
The main tourist attraction in Geneva is its water jet. Behind the two violinists in the picture you can see the base of this "Jet d'eau".
The water jet was created in 1951 to replace the old one from 1891. Currently it is Europe's largest water fountain. The water spurts to a height of 140 m (459 feet). Other cities in the world have tried to copy it, but so far, none has been able to match its beauty.
The jet is open everyday from March to October, but it is not on 24 hours. It is switched on a few hours after dawn and it is shut down a couple of hours after sunset, when weather conditions are good. If you want to be sure the Jet is on, ask your hotel for its opening hours.
