15/45.- Arles: Roman Amphitheatre

Menu

Circling the arena under the ground floor arcades, one cannot but admire the architectural skill of the Roman builders.  Today, the amphitheatre is used for bullfights, which are almost as popular here as they are in Spain.  Arles is also one of the towns where the painter Vincent Van Gogh spent several years of his life, fascinated by the colourful palette of the Provence countryside.
