Flanders: Hoeilaart
Driving South-east through the province of Flemish Brabant,
one crosses a
region famous for its grapes. The Belgian climate being what
it is, the
grapes are grown not in vineyards, but in greenhouses, where
the bunches of
grapes hang from the ceiling. In former times, whole slopes
would be
covered with these glass structures. Years ago, the region produced
a white
sparkling wine, but production has now been discontinued.
